MDNA MONITORS proposed construction projects throughout the Mission Dolores neighborhood to ensure that historic resources are properly restored and not demolished or degraded. We often invite developers to our board meetings so that they can introduce their projects and consider our feedback. We have been instrumental in saving five major historic resources that otherwise would have been demolished or ruined, and have made positive contributions to the quality of the design of many others.

38 Dolores Street
The whole block of Dolores St. from 14th to Market St.—the gateway to the Mission Dolores Neighborhood and arguably the least attractive stretch of Dolores St.—was transformed in 2014 when the former site of the S&C Motors, “Home of the Miracle Deal,” gave way to a large, well-designed condominium development and ground-floor Whole Foods Store. And across the street, the former S&C Motors service garages came down to make way for another condo project at 25-35 Dolores. In both cases, the developers and architects met with our board on multiple occasions before construction began to review changes to the designs, many of which were based on feedback from our organization.
