Mission Dolores Neighborhood Association Board Meeting October 11, 2023 6:30 pm
MDNA Board Meeting: Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 6:30 PM
Location: 65 Dorland (off Dolores), Room 406
Agenda & Minutes
1. Minutes: Approved
2. Visit from Mission Police Captain Thomas Harvey (6:30 to 7): Captain Harvey
explained that while he’ll do as much as possible to help the graffiti and homeless
problems are Valencia, 16th, and the BART station, the police are currently down
600 officers, so they need to prioritize addressing violet crime. He also referred us
to DPW, even though they’ve been unresponsive.
3. Meeting with Adam Thongsavat, Legislative Aide to Supervisor Mandelman:
Graffiti Problem and Homeless Update: Adam told us that he and Mandelman’s
office would work closely with us to address our concerns about graffiti and the
homeless problem. He also said that they would work with Ronen’s office about
the problems around BART stations. (Later, the homeless man on Landers and
15th Street was arrested and jailed after the neighbors took pictures of him
writing threatening graffiti on a garage door. It ended up that he also had 2
warrants for his arrest and was hiding in his tent to avoid arrest, but they
wouldn’t do anything until the pictures were turned into the police and they catch
him outside of his tent. He lived on the corner for 2 months.)
4. Proposed Homeless Shelter at 16th & Mission Walgreens: Donna, Aaron, and
Barbara agreed to go to this public meeting and report back to the board at our
November 8th meeting.
5. MDNA Non-Profit Status: Should we endorse candidates? With the SF Study
Center recent 501.h status, we now can. The board voted to start making
endorsements for elected official including law & order judges and supervisors.
6. Future MDNA Leadership – Continuation: We tabled this discussion until our
November meeting.
